I'm Cheryl, a qualified proofreader and copy editor currently living in France. Aside from my proofreading and copy editing work I also speak French and am able to translate documents from French into free-flowing English. I am also happy to undertake proofreading work for non-native English speakers.

What I can do for you

I have an excellent eye for detail and will ensure that mistakes don't slip through the net so that your documents present a professional image. I offer a fast, efficient and friendly service and undertake any kind of proofreading and copy editing, including books, short stories, dissertations, marketing material, websites, CVs, leaflets, etc.
I can work with Word or PDF documents as well as editing on paper using BSI symbols.

Proofreading

I will check spelling, punctuation, grammar, font, accuracy and consistency before a document is printed or published.

Copy Editing

My copy editing service includes all the elements of proofreading plus a more in-depth look at content, structure, tone of voice, continuity and meaning.

Translation

I will translate your documents from French into natural, flowing, grammatically correct English.

Recent Projects

I copy edited and proofread this debut collection of short stories. This required an in-depth edit of the entire book on a line by line basis. I did this using Word track changes and provided an explanatory document of my proposed edits.

This project included translating and proofreading the PDF version of this NGO’s 2017 Annual Report. My previous financial experience complemented my editing and translation skills during this task.

Graines de Paix

I worked with Armando translating and perfecting texts to accompany his paintings. The work included translating poetry; the original poetry was written in Dutch then translated into French and then into English. The key to the project was ensuring that the original meaning of the author’s words was not lost through successive translations.

This organisation specialises in property photography and floor plans. The project entailed proofreading the English section of their new website, which involved checking spelling, punctuation, grammar, font and consistency.

Fees

It is usual to quote a rate per 1,000 words, in which case my rates are:
